After a diabetes diagnosis inspires him to change his lifestyle, Elijah “EZ” Porter-a washed-up underground rapper turned dispensary worker with a chip on his shoulder discovers a Spotify playlist that’s about to ruin his life. When EZ stumbles upon The Beat You Hear, a 90's hip-hop cursed mixtape that includes tracks by the demonic Toronto-based rap group Knightz of Da Round TBLE, he thinks he’s found the ultimate workout vibe. But after his friend Smoke drops dead—literally—EZ realizes the playlist is a death sentence.

With 30 days to break the curse or join Smoke in the afterlife, EZ teams up with his ex-girlfriend Vera (who’s still mad he ghosted her) and his estranged producer Staple (who’s still mad he ghosted the rap game). Together, they dive into the dark history of the Knightz, uncovering their connection to a deadly 1996 rap battle where MCs who challenged them vanished or ended up in body bags.
